A CAR dealer has warned customers of a common ploy used by big companies to get extra cash just for doing their job.

When it comes to buying a enginesome companies may charge a decent amount for “admin fees” – a loose catch-all term for a variety of different tasks performed.

But stephen bogan explained to his ICT Tac followers that the extra amount of money is a total rip off.

The seller, from James Glen Cars, said his own company has NEVER charged an administration fee since its inception in 1982.

Reading another company’s document, he said, “A few truths about car dealerships. Administration fees.

“They range from £99 to, I don’t know, £299?

“This particular one is £149.”

James then details the points covered by the administration fee – which he mostly laughs at given that they are part of the job itself.

He added: “Our £149 administration fee gives you a 45 point pre-delivery inspection.

“Ours is 82, also supported by the RAC and we don’t charge for that. It’s called being a car dealership.

“It also includes a full test drive…again, that’s why you’re buying from a car dealership so you can drive it before you buy if you want.

“Complete HPI inspection certificate…a car dealer will not buy a car unless they have an HPI first because why would you want the HPI after and find out the car has been bumped or changed color or for various other reasons.

“Full transfer of ownership – not just a tiny bit.”

James continued: “It’s pure s***e.

“Full vehicle valet prior to collection. So they won’t just clean the front, they’ll clean the back, inside and out.

“Again, isn’t that what a car dealership is? Do you want your stock to be dirty and the customer to call and pay the admin fee before cleaning it up?

“They’ll even tax the car for you while you wait. No one has access to their phone these days and taxing a car takes so long it takes about three minutes.

“And they will put all the documents in a folder for you. You are unlucky ?

“So to sum it up, James Glen Cars will never pay an administration fee because they suck.

“And it’s just another way to make money basically to do your job.

“It’s just rubbish. Administration fee – don’t pay it.

Those in the comments also fully agreed with James’ position.

One commented, “As someone who works in the trade, 100% of the admin fee is free money for the dealer DON’T PAY IT.”

Another wrote: ‘I’ve been in the industry since 2004 and this is the biggest scam/scam going.’

While one follower added: ‘Would never buy a car from a garage that charges them.’
