What type of vehicle is the Toyota Sienna 2022? What does it compare to?

The Sienna 2022 is a spacious, family-friendly minivan that rivals the Honda Odyssey, Chrysler Pacifica and Kia Carnival.

Is the 2022 Toyota Sienna a good car?

The review continues below

With its standard hybrid powertrain, the Sienna is a frugal, if not quick, choice with a comfortable ride, decent seating, and the flexibility of optional all-wheel drive. We give it an impressive TCC rating of 7.3 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate the cars.)

What’s new for the 2022 Toyota Sienna?

This year, Toyota is adding a quasi-SUV trim called Woodland that features a raised ride height and an exclusive cement color shared with the brand’s Tacoma pickup.

The Sienna is available in seven- or eight-passenger variants, all of which share the same crisp, windswept styling on the exterior and a car-style dashboard on the interior.

The lineup ranges from the base LE to the mainstream XLE, to the vaguely sporty XSE, the somewhat lavish Limited and fairly decadent Platinum trims, with the Wilderness perched above the XLE. All-wheel drive is optional across the range.

The Sienna combines a 2.5-liter in-line 4-cylinder engine developing 189 horsepower with an electric motor. Together, the two put 245 hp to the wheels thanks to a CVT. While not as energetic as its rivals Honda and Chrysler, the Sienna is refined and thrifty. We didn’t match the EPA’s 36 mpg combined rating, but any van that cleans over 30 mpg in just about any driving situation is pretty impressive.

Inside, the Sienna isn’t as spacious and thoughtfully appointed as the Pacifica, but its seats are comfortable, especially in the second row, where the Double Thrones slide easily back and forth.

Toyota equips the Sienna with a wide range of collision avoidance features and it generally performed well in crash tests.

How much does the Toyota Sienna 2022 cost?

The Sienna lineup starts at just under $ 36,000 for the base LE, rising to around $ 55,000 for an optional Platinum.

Most families will find an XLE with easy-to-wash synthetic leather seats to suit their needs perfectly, especially with the optional power tailgate.

Where is the 2022 Toyota Sienna made?

In Princeton, Indiana.
