You look fancy, Sedona.

Kia

At the end of last month, Kia lifted the veil on the last Sedona minivan. Well, it was actually Carnival, that’s what the minibus is called in Kia’s home country of South Korea. Anyway, we thought it looked pretty good on the outside.

Now we can say that the interior is also stunning, after Kia posted just one photo of the cockpit on Monday. Again, this shows the Korean specification car, so things could change for other countries, but the overall feel should be basically the same. Kia was keen to emphasize the futuristic vibes and premium materials, which are meant to fit into the van’s “Spatial Talents” motif.

Unfortunately we only have a photo of the front cockpit, but it looks well laid out, which is probably a high end trim. The two 12.3-inch displays manage the gauge cluster and infotainment side, while buttons at the bottom of the center stack provide physical options for HVAC controls. Shift-by-wire technology also finds its way into the Sedona / Carnival, which implements a dial gear selector. The move should also create a ton of storage under the armrest area.

It looks really good overall.

Kia

Kia has further described what we’ll find behind the driver and front passenger, and depending on the country, the Sedona will feature three or four rows of seats to make room for seven, nine, or 11 people. In the seven-seat configuration, the second row will still house captain’s seats with a recline feature to make things more comfortable. The Current sedona is already surprisingly luxurious on the inside and the latest model looks set to kick things up with more room to boot, thanks to a longer wheelbase.

Kia calls it a “large utility vehicle”. It’s a minivan, but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Kia

We still don’t have definitive confirmation that the Sedona will be sold again in the United States, but it seems likely. Kia told Roadshow that “the vehicle remains an important part of Kia’s award-winning lineup” without confirming the van. But, this latest announcement indicates that the carnival will go on sale in South Korea in the third quarter with global sales to follow.

If it makes it to the United States, the new Sedona will face new competition from the new Toyota Sienna 2021 and the makeover Chrysler Pacifica 2021.
