2nd row seats (removal)
Minivans have had a bad reputation for a long time, but if you haven’t looked at one recently, you’ll be surprised. Toyota builds the Sienna MPV attractive on the outside and roomy on the inside.
Have we really say attractive?
The new Sienna is not your typical box on wheels that has set the model apart for so long. It has an elegant style that sets it apart from the typical crowd of family carriers. What is the Sienna’s biggest advantage over the competition? It has all-wheel drive and it’s the only minivan on the market that has it.
Over Memorial Day weekend, we tested the top of the line 2016 Toyota Sienna LTD Premium AWD.
What’s new for 2016?
Sienna minivan remains relatively unchanged for 2016 but it gets the Entune infotainment system with additional smartphone-driven navigation and Siri Eyes Free.
Features and options
The 2016 Sienna Limited Premium ($ 46,410) comes packed with features like a double moonroof, second row seats, power folding third row seats, JBL sound system and 18-inch wheels. It also has HID headlights, rain sensing wipers, and Blu-Ray / DVD entertainment. The Limited Premium offers a few additional options, such as a paint protection film, remote start, a set of floor mats and roof rack crossbars.
Total MSRP: $ 49,446 including destination.
Stepping into the 2016 Toyota Sienna, we understood why families are going to love this vehicle. It is comfortable and spacious. It is a family room on wheels. The Limited Premium is the top of the line model and that’s why automotive journalists like us buy them. However, it’s also the level of trim that families will appreciate the most, as the interior is plush. The quality of materials is above average for the class and the cabin is elegant, especially with the leather seats and simulated wood cabin accents.
Are you going on a long road trip this summer? The Sienna comes with all the extras to make traveling enjoyable, and there is ample storage space to store all your gear.
There are heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and a premium 10-speaker JBL audio system to make the ride feel short. Do you have kids who like to be entertained? It also comes with a dual view Blu-Ray rear entertainment system. It has a split-screen monitor that allows two different types of media (for example, a movie on one side and a video game on the other) to play simultaneously. It will help to eliminate such arguments between siblings, which will make it more pleasant for parents.
It also comes with sliding rear blinds to keep the sun out of video screens or your passengers’ faces.
In the second row of the Limited, the bench is replaced by two captain’s seats. It makes driving more comfortable and keeps children separated. The chairs feature extendable footrests that have the ability to slide further forward or backward than the competition.
You can really stretch and make yourself comfortable.
Reaching the third row is not too difficult, especially with the captain’s seats. There is also plenty of room in the third row. If you have a large family, everyone will ride in comfort. If you need more storage, the third row can be stowed away with a simple movement. With the third row upright, cargo space totals 39.1 cubic feet, increasing to 117.8 cubic feet with the second row seats at their front limit. Maximum cargo space is 150 cubic feet with the captain’s seats removed, but it’s no easy task.
They are quite heavy and difficult to remove.
Engine and fuel consumption specifications
The 2016 Toyota Sienna is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 producing 266 horsepower. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels of this model.
The EPA’s estimates are 16/23 mpg city / highway and 19 combined with all-wheel drive.
The 2016 Toyota Sienna delivers the kind of performance you expect from a family vehicle with plenty of power for most driving situations. We tested the 7-passenger minivan at high altitude, so it seemed a bit underpowered to pull a full load of people on I-70 in the high country. But on the flats, this vehicle delivered a smooth and ample power.
The Sienna has the ability to quickly accelerate to freeway speed and pass or merge without delay.
In city driving, visibility is good in all directions and it is easy to navigate the city streets. The relatively quick steering, coupled with a smooth ride, makes the Sienna easy to maneuver in city traffic. The standard rear view camera provides a 180 degree view, making it safer when exiting parking spaces and when backing up the driveway.
Where the Sienna excels over the competition is in the available all-wheel drive.
We were unable to test the vehicle in snow or ice, but the AWD system will give families an added sense of security and confidence, especially in northern climates. The 2016 Toyota Sienna is less likely to leave you on the side of the road in inclement weather.
The 2016 Toyota Sienna LTD Premium AWD is an irresistible choice for families looking for a comfortable and spacious family vehicle. This model can be a bit pricey, but it has all the things that will make long trips go quickly.
The availability of all-wheel drive puts this van above the rest.
